Product Description

This soup has been the number one seller since day one. Maybe it’s because of the cheese filled tortellini sourced from the best noodle makers in Italy or the beef flavor made right here in our factory or maybe the delightful blend of italian spices. Whatever the reason this italian flavor red broth soup is one of our favorites and hopefully it’ll be one of your too!

Ingredients: Tortellini*, beef flavor**, dehydrated carrots, herbs and spices.
*Tortellini: Pasta: durum wheat semolina, eggs. Filling: milled breadstick (wheat flour, water, salt), Edam cheese (pasteurized cow milk, salt, curd), soy bean oil, Pecorino cheese (pasteurized sheep milk, salt, curd), yeast extract, salt, Parmesan cheese (pasteurized cow milk, salt, curd), garlic, pepper, nutmeg.
**Vegetarian Beef Flavor: Organic tapioca maltodextrin, yeast extract, non hydrogenated vegetable oil, herbs and spices, salt, dehydrated tomato and bell pepper, natural flavor (contains tortula yeast), cane sugar, dehydrated celery. No added M.S.G. CONTAINS WHEAT, SOY, EGGS AND MILK.

Large Soup Directions, For Small Soups Cut Measurements in Half

You will need:
1 15 oz. Can Tomato Sauce
1/2 lb Italian Sausage

Includes:
Tortellini
1 Beef flavor
1 Spice packet

Directions: In a 4 Quart saucepan brown sausage, drain fat. Add 7 cups water and both spice packets, bring to a boil, add tomato sauce and tortellini noodles. Return to a boil, reduce to low, cover and cook for 30 minutes or until tortellini noodles are tender.

Crockpot Directions: Add water, the entire soup mix, tomato sauce and precooked meat to the slow cooker. Cook on low for 2.5 hours (minimum) to 5 hours (maximum). Enjoy!

Cooking Variations:
Add zucchini, mushrooms, or bell pepper. Top with grated cheese or parmesan. Replace tomato sauce with 15-oz. can chopped or Italian stewed tomatoes.
You can also add Kielbasa, ground turkey or beef.
Serve with hot bread sticks or pretzels. Use your imagination. Make it distinctly yours!
Reduce sodium by limiting the amount of beef flavor used.

Vegetarian:Prepare package without meat. (Beef flavor is yeast based and therefore vegetarian.) If desired add meat substitute.

Tidbits of History

Thorp is an agricultural community nestled among the rolling hills in Central Washington. In 1878, the railroad named Thorp after one of the its first settlers, Mortimer Thorp.

It is a magnificent area of fertile, well-irrigated land. Irrigation was established as early as 1873 by the Taneum Ditch Company and then the West Side Canal was built in 1889. A sawmill, powered by water, was built in 1879 and in 1907 an electric plant was installed there. This gave Thorp the distinction of being the smallest, unincorporated town in the northwest to have electric lights.

The North Star Flour Mill also produced flour and other grain products beginning in 1883. Many other businesses included two general stores, a fine hotel, drug store and doctor’s office, meat market, black smith shop, ice house, shoemaker, 14 saloons, a dance hall, a confectionery, wooden box factory, theater, creamery, post office, and public schools.

Today, Thorp is a quiet rural community with a population of about 200 people. The North Star mill is now the Thorp Grist Mill Museum with much of the original equipment displayed and well worth the time to visit. Look online at www.thorp.org.

Even More Tidbits of History
Legend has it that Tortellini was created as a tribute to Venus, the goddess of love.

The legend states that when Venus stayed in a tavern on the outskirts of the city of Bologna, the innkeeper spied on her through the keyhole of her room, but could catch only a glimpse of her navel. Spellbound, he went to the kitchen and, to capture this vision, shaped fresh egg pasta into the navel-sized Tortellini. Tortellini remains one of Italy’s classic pastas and has become a favorite in America and around the world.  Filled with a variety  of flavorful ingredients it remains one of the essentials of Italian cuisine.

    Delicious! I added green pepper, onion and mushrooms. Instead of tomato sauce I used the Italian stewed tomatoes, as you suggested. Will definitely buy more pkgs!

    This is my favorite soup, period! And it tastes even better the next day! I always keep some in the cupboard, in case I don’t have any dinner ideas. I found it in a small store in Washington, and now that I’ve moved to Michigan, I just order it online. It is the best!
